Our experience provides us the opportunity to maintain a variety of top-of-the-line aquatic navigation and sampling equipment that is available to our clients and industry partners. As our research extends from the headwaters to the ocean, so do our navigation and equipment capabilities. The 25' ACB twin propeller, 23’ jet, and electrofishing boats are available with one of our U.S. Coast Guard Certified Boat Captains. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. ACB Bay-Ocean Research Boat
Our 350 hp ACB bay-ocean research boat is the safest, fastest, and most fuel efficient boat in its class, and perfectly suited for big water when speed and safety are priorities. Aluminum Chambered Boats (ACB) are well known in extreme environments, such as Alaska and the U.S. military, for their superior performance and safety characteristics. The hull consists of nine independent aluminum air chambers that provide floatation even if the hull is breached. The large payload capacity and open deck make this boat perfectly suited for carrying research gear and other equipment, especially in the bay and ocean. The twin Evinrude E-Tec engines are lightweight, clean burning, and fuel efficient. An advanced radar and GPS navigation system provide guidance at night and during inclement weather. A 150 gallon fuel tank reduces fuel stops and extends the offshore range to over 200 miles. With a top speed of 50 mph, this research boat reduces labor costs by reducing travel time. The boat and a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain are available on a daily or project basis.
23’ Inboard Jet Boat for Fisheries and Environmental Monitoring
Our 380 hp 23’ jet boat is perfectly suited for research, monitoring, and education and media tours extending from mainstem waters to the ocean. Its size and power to weight ratio, coupled with a large fuel tank and suite of navigation electronics, make it perfect for both short and long distance trips. Onboard electronics include sub-meter resolution Trimble GPS, marine radio, 3-D side scanning acoustics for bottom and levee mapping, and real-time GPS mapping display for navigation at night and during inclement weather. Inside the canopy there is seating for 8, with total capacity ranging from 8-10 persons, depending on equipment and duration.
Electrofishing Boat for Fisheries Research and Monitoring
Our electrofishing rental boat is a 2009 Smith-Root Extra Heavy model 18’ electrofishing boat, extensively equipped to sample any aquatic habitat. The slight V-hull design provides maneuverability and stability in rough water, yet minimizes draft to help navigate shallow rivers. Dual motors also allow for maximum flexibility and efficiency. A 200 hp Evinrude E-Tec jet provides fast travel on shallow rivers, while a 25 hp propeller driven engine provides maximum maneuverability while electrofishing.
Finding fish and mapping route and sampled habitats are made easy with onboard state-of-the-art electronics. A 3-D side-scanning sonar system locates fish and maps channel or bottom habitat, and provides precise GPS position for sampling and navigation. The system marks sampled habitat and provide detailed underwater acoustic still or video images. Several Smith-Root LR-24 backpack electrofishers are also available.
16’ NorthRiver Jet Boat for Aquatic Assessments
Our 16’ NorthRiver jet boat is strong, fast, and easy to tow and operate, which makes it ideal for tributary and small reservoir projects everywhere. The center control console provides the operator the best vantage point to navigate tight, shallow rivers, while also providing room for crew and equipment positioning. A 40 hp jet motor is reliable, efficient, and keeps the overall weight of the boat down, enabling launching on gravel bars and other less than ideal locations.
DIDSON Acoustic Camera for Fisheries Monitoring
The DIDSON LR acoustic camera provides high-resolution video images at night and in turbid water, and is available on a weekly or monthly basis. The long range DIDSON is capable of observing fish behavior as far away as 80 meters, which makes it ideal for research in both small and large water bodies. Our staff includes several certified divers experienced with operation of the Sound Metrics DIDSON video camera. The DIDSON is ideal for a variety of fisheries research and monitoring purposes, including fish passage assessment, fish screen evaluation, predator behavior and abundance research, fish habitat use investigation, and fish species composition assessment.
