FISHBIO is seeking MS or PhD level professionals in fishery biology, aquatic ecology, fisheries statistics, or a related field with at least 5 years of research or specialized experience with fish, water, and wildlife resources.  We are looking for people with a proven ability to interact with others professionally and complete tasks independently with minimal supervision. Experience in consulting, especially with aquatic resource impact assessments pertaining to hydropower and water resource development, is highly desirable. We are a network of professionals with diverse backgrounds in biological and physical sciences, and this opportunity includes the potential to telecommute, or work in an office environment in Oakdale or Chico, California. We have full and part time positions available, and are also interested in sub-contracting to independent contractors. Individuals should be outstanding candidates with exceptional qualifications and experience with the following skills:

 

  • Working knowledge of standard fish monitoring and analysis techniques, habitat restoration methods, and regulatory issues in California.
  • Manage, coordinate, and provide technical support for research and monitoring projects related to fish population status, trends, and management.
  • Prepare comprehensive fish and wildlife management plans and mitigation strategies to ensure preservation, protection, and enhancement of resources and habitat.
  • Data analysis and advanced modeling using data obtained from a variety of sources including mark-recapture and telemetry (e.g., coded-wire tag, acoustic, PIT tag) studies, creel surveys of recreational anglers, and public questionnaire surveys.
  • Develop supporting information and/or documents to comply with ESA, NEPA, CEQA, FERC regulations, etc.
  • Conduct outreach efforts (meetings, presentations, coordination) with a variety of federal, state and local agencies, non-governmental organizations, universities, and other local stakeholders.
  • Prepare grant applications.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
